Effective problem-solving is a vital skill for professionals. Obstacles, challenges, or issues are a constant in any workplace. The question then becomes: How should one approach these problems?- Organize your thoughts:When all seems too complicated, break down to the smallest piece and take notes on each element.- Logical order: focus on solving the problem in a logical order. Then, go up step by step. For example, a user must perform specific actions based on user type. Is the user capable of registering? Do we send an account e-mail confirmation? Is the login working correctly? Do we receive the user type?- Talk/share about the problem:Talking about a problem with a colleague often brings up a solution. Their fresh view or understanding of the business logic is powerful in finding solutions. Talking with other people stimulates creativity and increases focus.- Retreat:When all seems too hard. Get your mind away, do something else, keep working on other things and return to it later. After exploring different possibilities, try to observe the problem from a distance. Retreating will relax your mind, which is effective in considering other variables to find a solution.- Research/learn:Understand other aspects that are closely related. You don't have to know everything in the most profound detail. But do learn concepts that intersect with what you do. It will increase your overall knowledge of the inner mechanics of how things work together.Additional Tip: Collaboration!Seek input from various team members with different expertise. Innovative solutions often are a combination of different perspectives and skill sets. What do you think about these five tips about problem-solving? Is there any other tip you would like to share?#problemsolving #developerjourney #tips #fullstackdeveloper

𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 are essential for productivity. They act as key markers that help guide us through tasks and projects 🔥They push us to focus, prioritise important work, and communicate effectively with others. Deadlines are crucial in setting expectations and keeping teams aligned on their goals, ultimately driving progress and accountability. However, we all know that meeting deadlines can be difficult. Distractions, poor communication, lack of resources, poor planning, and psychological barriers like fear of failure can all make it challenging to stay on track. To overcome these challenges, it’s important to adopt strategies that help us stay organised, communicate clearly, and take responsibility for our work. Some effective strategies include staying organised, managing time well, being proactive in handling tasks, paying close attention to details, and good communication. It’s also important to remain flexible and adaptable when plans change and to be accountable for the impact missed deadlines might have on others. In addition to these common strategies, there are lesser-known tactics that can help manage deadlines more efficiently. Breaking down large tasks into smaller ones, communicating progress regularly, setting deadlines to allow for unexpected issues, and avoiding multitasking are all helpful approaches. Prioritising tasks based on importance and being honest about potential delays can prevent last-minute surprises. Reducing anxiety through thorough research and understanding the full scope of a project can also help ensure deadlines are met. So, it's important to note that mastering deadlines requires discipline, clear communication, and the ability to adapt to changes. By understanding why deadlines are important, acknowledging the obstacles, and using smart strategies, we can complete tasks and projects on time, turning deadlines into powerful tools for success rather than roadblocks 🙌#deadlines

This is wonderful insight, and incredibly validating to read - thanks, Stephanie! I used to think multitasking was a superpower, but after a few awkward mis-steps over the years, I now work in linear fashion off a heavily-prioritized task list, and create focused time blocks in my calendar to help get in a flow with similar tasks and feel less scattered. It requires far more communication with my peers & advisors re: priorities of course, but I feel WAY more connected to my workday when single-tasking, and far more mindful of each individual project. Are you a single-tasker, or multi-tasker, and why?

Doing one thing at a time sounds easy but it's oh-so-difficult! Am I right? Check out this piece by Stephanie Evans about sticking with a single task and how to get your mind to follow you! It's such a struggle to just do one thing! This is why I love the Pomodoro Technique - 25 minutes of targeted time. It really teaches you to stop distracting yourself and do. the. work! But it truly takes time to train yourself. I also know that using a "distraction placeholder" has been my secret weapon for some time and anytime I give a talk and mention it people love it. Pick a spot on your to-do list or any paper - and any time you get distracted write down what you're in the middle of doing. That way if you have to deal with the other task you won't lose your spot. It takes 23 minutes to reengage in a task after you've been distracted - but the distraction placeholder gives you that time back! Also thrilled that my LinkedIn Learning course is mentioned here as a resource. You can check them all out here: https://lnkd.in/e3gZRJw6

Is Emotional Intelligence Really 𝑇ℎ𝑎𝑡 Important for a Tech Role? 🤔It can be easy to assume it's a secondary skill, a 'nice to have', but here's some examples of how the 4 pillars of EQ will help you out as a developer:1️⃣ 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬: Recognising Stress TriggersIn software development, tight deadlines and complex problems are expected. Yet, maintaining composure is essential. 👉🏻 By practicing self-control and channeling frustration into problem-solving, developers can overcome challenges without causing friction within their team.3️⃣ 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬: Empathising with ColleaguesTech teams thrive on collaboration, but not everyone feels comfortable speaking up. 👉🏻 A socially aware developer can pick up on cues of discomfort and offer support, fostering an inclusive environment where all team members feel valued and heard.4️⃣ 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: Mediating Conflicts ProductivelyDisagreements are inevitable, but how we handle them matters. 👉🏻 A developer skilled in relationship management can facilitate constructive discussions, ensuring that conflicts are resolved respectfully and team dynamics remain positive.Emotional intelligence is indeed 𝒄𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍 for success in a tech role.
